It says my uTorrent port does not seem to be open.?

i'm downloading stuff from uTorrent and I'm getting awfully slow speed and it says my port is closed, how do i open it ? i changed changing the port number. can someone tell me what to do in steps? It says my uTorrent port does not seem to be open.?
You need to forward the port through any router or firewall. This guide to setting uTorrent up for best speeds has links to guides for this and other info and screenshots to help:

Look under your router and follow the guide (select your model ) here to open your port:

Hope this helps!

EDIT: If you're getting that error, then your torrent program is overtaxing your router. If you probably want to buy a router that can keep up- like the Linksys WRT54GL- and install performance firmware on it like Tomato. That handles torrenting very well.It says my uTorrent port does not seem to be open.?
And if both your modem and your router are listed, read http://www.webdingers.com/router.htmlIt says my uTorrent port does not seem to be open.?
click this http://192.168.1.1 that should get you to the log in for your router the login with probably be admin admin once inside you need to go to the port fowarding section and the port number you set for utorrent put there then put the internal IP address of your computer and it should work. probably needs to be set as TCP also.
