Click on %26quot;Start%26quot; in the bottom left hand corner of screen

Click on %26quot;Run%26quot;.

Type in %26quot;command%26quot; and hit ok.

You should now be at an MSDOS prompt screen.

Type %26quot;ipconfig /release%26quot; just like that, and hit %26quot;enter%26quot;

Type %26quot;exit%26quot; and leave the prompt

Right-click on %26quot;Network Places%26quot; or %26quot;My Network Places%26quot; on your desktop.

Click on %26quot;properties%26quot;

You should now be on a screen with something titled %26quot;Local Area Connection%26quot;, or something close to that, and, if you have a network hooked up, all of your other networks.

Right-click on %26quot;Local Area Connection%26quot; and click %26quot;properties%26quot;

Double-click on the %26quot;Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)%26quot; from the list under the %26quot;General%26quot; tab

Click on %26quot;Use the following IP address%26quot; under the %26quot;General%26quot; tab

Create an IP address (It doesn't matter what it is. I just type 1 and 2 until i fill the area up).

Press %26quot;Tab%26quot; and it should automatically fill in the %26quot;Subnet Mask%26quot; section with default numbers.

Hit the %26quot;Ok%26quot; button here

Hit the %26quot;Ok%26quot; button again

You should now be back to the %26quot;Local Area Connection%26quot; screen.

Right-click back on %26quot;Local Area Connection%26quot; and go to properties again.

Go back to the %26quot;TCP/IP%26quot; settings

This time, select %26quot;Obtain an IP address automatically%26quot;

Hit %26quot;Ok%26quot;

Hit %26quot;Ok%26quot; again

You now have a new IP address

With a little practice, you can easily get this process down to 15 seconds. (in windows vista the %26quot;My network places%26quot; has been renamed to %26quot;Network and sharing center%26quot; which can be accessed in the Control panel)How can I find my IP address?

Hi AT

There are two ways of finding the IP address of your computer.

The first uses the ipconfig command and the second requires that you

looks at the TPC/IP settings.

To find the IP address on a windows computer using ipconfig, open a

command line (dos prompt) and type the command ipconfig at the prompt.

Abox will appear showing the IP address, subnet mask , and default

gateway

To examine the TCP/IP settings

On windows 2000- Go to start menu%26gt;settings%26gt;network and dial up

connections and right click your connection and select properties.

Select TCP/IP in the window and select properties and you see a box

giving you the ip address and subnet mask
