ok i just need steps on making it faster. I'm using utorrent. Ive heard that the type of browser speed things up.I'm using InternetExplorer but maybe i should try firefox. Plus my download max is at unlimited, but i think i should change that. Right now it only downloads 10 kb. Oh and how do I change the port to make it download faster?Make downloading torrents faster?
The browser you use has no bearing on your download speed via BT. Limit your upload speed to about 80% of you maximum upload speed so you don't clog the pipe. Go here to learn how to forward your port:

Parallel to communication port/converter/wire/whatever?
I have a very nice laser jet printer, and it uses a parallel port to connect to a printer (the 24 pin variety, I think), and I recently got a new laptop that only has parallel ports and USB ports on them. Now the printer has been rendered useless to me. I was wondering if any such converter exists that changes a port from the 24 pin parallel port style to the 9 pin communications port style OR USB. Or perhaps a parallel printer wire that goes to USB... If anybody knows how I can get my printer to work with my laptop, I would be greatly appreciative...
If it helps, my laptop is a Sony VAIO running Vista.Parallel to communication port/converter/wire/whatever?
Yes, you can very well get USB parallel adapters made to work old Parallel port adapters from a modern USB port.

How can I remotely manage options on my router from across a network?
I am on my college's network and want to make changes to my apartments router (on the same network) but do not know how.
What I am trying to do is change a forwarded port to my desktop. How can I remotely manage options on my router from across a network?
Your router needs to hage remote management enabled. This is usually a checkbox in the setup pages.
If it is enabled, you need to nkow the WAN IP address of your router - the one the campus knows it by. You can usually get this under the 'Status' tab in the setup pages.
Type that IP address into a browser - http://123.456.789.123

vista home premium if you are required to knowLimewire/frost wire will not connect with windows vista?
Here's the deal. Limewire and Frostwire cause computers to crash. People download files not knowing there are viruses on them. I know several people this has happen to. It was even strongly suggested in a computer training course not to install them period for this very reason. Take it like this, your computer is saving you from it happening again. You should find another downloading source.Limewire/frost wire will not connect with windows vista?

ISP blocked torrents?
Hi,
Im using an AIRTEL VSAT connection, i get speeds upto 1 mbps, but im not able to download through torrents. all other http and ftp download modes are possible, but even p2p is disabled!!
When i try torrents it connects to trackers and receives no of seeds n peers, but i wont get any single kb of data.
So, how to tackle this problem???
I used all kinds of port forwarding, tunneling and many apps, but nothing helps, even port changing doesnt help..
Plz suggest me a good solution!!!!!!!!!!!!ISP blocked torrents?
Depending on the torrent application you're using, you may be able to encrypt your torrent connections and it may help prevent your torrent connections from being throttled.
You should try to see if you can turn encryption option on if it's available.
If you're not in the United States, your country may have laws against encryption and you should find out if so, before changing the setting.ISP blocked torrents?

How can I configure my browser to browse the net on another port?
Do you think i can configure my internet browser to browse on another port rather than the default port 8080? for instance can i change it to port used for Internet call? e.g port 27079 or port 1165?How can I configure my browser to browse the net on another port?
Normally, most web servers listen on port 80 for a browser to make a request for a file (page), and that is really where things are controlled. Ultimately you will have connect to a web site on the Internet via port 80, unless it is explicity part of the URL (i.e. http://www.yourdomain.com:27079 - in order for this to work the web server must be listening on port 27079 or it will just timeout trying to connect.
You can set your browser to use a different port by setting the proxy server settings in the connection window - my guess, however, is that if your browser is already using 8080, there is probably a proxy/firewall on your network.
To summarize - by changing the proxy settings in your web browser, you can force all LAN requests to use a different port as they will then be directed to a proxy/firewall where those requests are then sent out on port 80 over the Internet. How can I configure my browser to browse the net on another port?
I know this doesn't answer your question, but when I first glanced at it, I thought you wanted to browse on another 'planet', which would not be possible (in case anybody was going to try). How can I configure my browser to browse the net on another port?
Open up Internet Explorer and type %26quot;http://192.168.0.1%26quot; without the quotes. This will ask for a name and password for your modem. The name is %26quot;admin%26quot; and the password is %26quot;password%26quot;. When you are in there, you can forward your port from default, to any port that you desire. Just make sure you save the settings, and reset your modem. How can I configure my browser to browse the net on another port?
or u could try to use a proxy

Windows msn / Yahoo Messenger service and p2p software?
I have a laptop which is working fine , i'm running avg virus and spyware software. I use azureus as torrent downloader which works great. The issue i have is that none of the above software seems to connect - i have uninstalled both msn and windows live messenger but to no avail it won't let me connect without an xp error message. so in other words it won't work at all same with kazzaa and exeem but azureues works fine , i thought it was a firewall issue but even with the virus and firewall switched off it still doesn't work what am i missing - i have port forwarding set up on azureus could that be a problem? I can't think of anything else apart from recovery but i don't want to do that. it used to work fine could it be a virus , i have scanned but nothing comes up. Apparently i can change the port setting in interent options but i don't know how to do this either all in all i'm a tad stuck someone please help !!!Windows msn / Yahoo Messenger service and p2p software?
Your question's a little confusing, but let me see if this is right;
You've got Azureus installed, and this works ok.
You had MSN and Windows Live Messenger both installed, but have removed these now and they wouldn't connect when you had them installed.
Kazaa you've tried and this won't connect.
Exeem you've tried and it won't connect either.
So none of your Messenger or P2P applications will connect to the internet except Azureus? And you get a Windows XP error message, but you haven't said what it is?
I would suggest that you type exactly what your error message is into Google, and you'll find some pages that will help. Probably some pages from the Microsoft Knowledgebase, and some forum posts where people have fixed this problem.
My other suggestion is to open up one of the programs that doesn't work and find the configuration or options page. Find out which ports it's using (if it's in there - you may need to check the application's help pages) and then set these up for port forwarding in your router (if you have one) and open the ports on your firewall.
I don't know which firewall you're using, but if you Google the name of your firewall and the words %26quot;open ports%26quot; then I'm sure you'll find a step-by-step guide.
If you have a router and need to set up the port forwarding for these ports, you can probably also use Google with the make/model of your router and the words %26quot;port forwarding%26quot; and perhaps %26quot;guide%26quot; to find out how to set this up.
I doubt very much there's a virus involved here. Lots of people who don't know better suggest a virus is the culprit when it's very unlikely a virus would just stop your applications connecting. It depending how dodgy your error message appears though I guess.
Good luck with your problem. Hopefully with a bit of Googling you should be able to fix the problem yourself. Try and post the error message in the future - it'll help people to help you.
All the best.
